A Lifetime of Service and Dedication

 

Sara Clark Caldwell died Friday, November 1st, in Nashville, Tennessee.  Caldwell was born on May 28, 1944 in Louisville, Kentucky.  Sara received a Bachelor of Science degree from Tennessee Technological University and a Masters Degree from Vanderbilt University.  She continued her Graduate Studies at Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government, and Harvard University Graduate School of Education.

As a teacher for more than 40 years in Sumner County Public School System, Sara was dedicated to her students and to helping them succeed.  She received the American Legion Award and countless other awards for her service and achievements.

In addition to her lifelong career as a teacher, she was a lifelong Democrat.  She founded the College Democrats at Tennessee Tech, volunteered and raised money for campaigns for Al Gore, Phil Bredesen, Bart Gordon, Douglas Henry, Sara Kyle and more.  She was voted Democrat of The Year by the Democratic National Committee and by the Tennessee Democratic Party.  Sara was a Graduate of Leadership America and served on its Alumna Board.  She also served as Vice President of the Nashville League of Women Voters, and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), General Francis Nash Chapter.

Sara is survived by her sister Penny Caldwell Greer, her brother-in-law Danny Greer, her nephew Tommy Greer, his wife Christine, his children William, Patricia and Thomas, and her cousins Carole King Moss and Annette King Fann.
